Every product in our shop carries a label saying what condition it’s in. Here’s what each one means. Everything we sell comes with a 1-year warranty from Principal Computers; the one exception is the battery in a second hand device.
| Condition | What to expect | Our 1-year warranty |
|---|---|---|
| New | Brand new and never used | Yes |
| Refurbished | Like new, physically indistinguishable from new | Yes |
| Second hand | Several years of use, with signs of wear | Yes, except the battery |
New
Brand new and never used. Where the manufacturer’s warranty runs longer than a year, the rest of that time is covered by the manufacturer.
Refurbished
Like new, without the brand new price. These machines have typically been used for only a few weeks, then gone back to the manufacturer to be refurbished. Once that’s done, they’re physically indistinguishable from new.
They aren’t brand new, because someone has had them before, but you get a machine that looks and works like new, with the same 1-year warranty from us. If you want new-computer quality and would like to pay less, this is the one to look at.
Second hand
A proven machine at the lowest price. These are pre-owned computers with several years of use behind them, and they look it. Expect signs of wear and tear, such as scratches, scuffs and worn keys.
Batteries vary, and aren’t covered by our warranty. A battery wears out with age and use, so how long a second hand device runs on battery varies from one machine to the next, and it won’t last as long as a new one. Everything else on the machine has our 1-year warranty; the battery doesn’t. Plan on keeping it near a power point, or we can fit a new battery at our usual repair rates. If long battery life matters to you, choose refurbished or new.
Your rights
Our warranty is in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, which nothing on this page takes away. See Returns for how to make a claim, or ask us about a particular machine before you buy.
